DHAKA, Oct 9, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh is looking forward to registering its first win as it faces Hong Kong China in their crucial Group C match of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, scheduled to be held at the National Stadium under floodlights today (Thursday).

The match kicks off at 8 pm.

The match against Hong Kong is a do-or-die match for Bangladesh. A defeat to Hong Kong will all but end Bangladesh's hopes of qualifying for the final round.

Javier Cabrera's side currently stands in third position in the table with one point from two matches, above India in group C by virtue of goal difference. The Asian Cup Qualification campaign began with a goalless draw against India in their opening group match and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Singapore in their second match.

The Bangladesh side, which began their preparation on September 28 last under the supervision of head coach Cabrera, must be boosted in presence of Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury and Canada-based midfielder Shamit Shome before the important game.

The two teams met four times in the past with Hong Kong remaining undefeated on all occasions winning two matches against Bangladesh since the two sides met for the first time in 2006.

On the other hand, Hong Kong currently sits joint top of their group alongside Singapore with four points each, and are looking forward to securing back-to-back qualifications for the Asian Cup. A victory against Bangladesh will certainly increase their chance to qualify for the next round.

Hong Kong are ranked 146th in the world, whereas Bangladesh are in 184th position, according to the latest FIFA World Ranking.
