DHAKA, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS)- North Zone captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is aiming for a winning start in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) one-day format tournament, which begins tomorrow (Monday).
Shanto's side will face East Zone at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura in the opening match of the tournament, widely regarded as a key preparation platform for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan.
Expecting a high-quality contest, Shanto said the Bogura surface traditionally offers assistance to both batters and bowlers, setting the stage for a competitive encounter.
"The Bogura surface usually produces high-quality cricket. I'm expecting a very good and competitive match," Shanto told reporters in Bogura today. "The wicket looks sporting and should benefit both batting and bowling."
He stressed the importance of discipline and performance in determining match outcomes.
"You have to play well to win-there's no compromise," he said. "On the day, the team that performs better will win. We have a very balanced side, and if we can play to our potential, the result should go in our favour."
Shanto will once again work alongside North Zone head coach Hannan Sarkar. The pair has often delivered strong results in domestic competitions, leading many to wonder about the factors behind their success.
Shanto credited their growing understanding over time rather than any sense of ease.
"The understanding between us is definitely strong. Working together in two or three tournaments has helped," he said. "I wouldn't say it's 'easy' because there are always challenges, but good understanding certainly makes the job easier."
