PERTH, Australia, March 7, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Taiwan beat Vietnam 1-0 in stifling heat in Perth to blow Group C wide open at the Women's Asian Cup on Saturday.

Taiwan, beaten 2-0 by Japan in their tournament opener, scored the only goal of the game in the 26th minute through Su Yu-hsuan when she nodded in from close range.

Vietnam beat India 2-1 to begin their tournament but in temperatures approaching 40C they found Taiwan to be a different proposition in front of a sparse crowd bathed in sunshine.

Vietnam ramped up the pressure in the closing stages but managed to muster just one shot on target all game.

Taiwan's narrow victory left them, Japan and Vietnam all on three points in the group, although Japan have a game in hand.

The heavily fancied Japanese face India later Saturday as they look to top Group C and seal a place in the quarter-finals.

North Korea, South Korea and hosts Australia are all already into the last eight with a game to spare, as are reigning champions China.
