Ansar dominate opening day in national services wrestling

DHAKA, May 20, 2026 (BSS)- The two-day 14th National Services Wrestling Championship began on Wednesday at the Roller Skating Complex in the capital.

On the opening day, eight gold medal events were held in the women's category. 

Athletes from Bangladesh Ansar dominated the competition, securing seven gold medals, while Bangladesh Police claimed single gold.

In the 50-kg category, Ansar's Sharmine Akter defeated Police's Irin to win gold. In the 53-kg, Suifung Marma of Ansar beat Nasrin of Police to secure 
top honours.

In the 55-kg, Masinu Marma defeated Shimu of Police, while in the 57-kg, Mimi of Ansar overpowered Hira Moni. In the 59-kg, Shukranti Biswas of Ansar 
defeated Johura Khatun of Police.

In the 62-kg, Swapna of Ansar beat Riya Moni of Police, and in the 68-kg, Dola Khatun of Ansar defeated Maksuda to win gold.

In the final bout of the day, in the 72-kg category, Halima Khatun of Police defeated Kajol of Ansar to secure the only gold for the police team.

Earlier, Bangladesh Olympic Association secretary general Jubaidur Rahman Rana formally inaugurated the two-day meet as the chief guest.
