UK hosts Bangladesh women cricketers' World Cup send-off

DHAKA, May 21, 2026 (BSS) - The British High Commission Dhaka today hosted a special reception to honour the Bangladesh Women's National Cricket Team 
ahead of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales next month.

Hosted by British High Commissioner to Bangaldesh Sarah Cooke, the reception celebrated the team's achievements and wished them success as they prepare to 
represent Bangladesh on the global stage.

Speaking at the function, Sarah Cooke said cricket remains a cherished sport in both the United Kingdom and Bangladesh and continues to strengthen people-
to-people ties between the two countries.

"We are delighted to welcome the Bangladesh Women's Cricket Team to the UK in the coming month and look forward to supporting them as they compete at the 
highest level," she said.

The reception also highlighted the growing sporting relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom and reaffirmed a shared commitment to 
promoting women's empowerment through sports.

The event was attended by members of parliament, senior government officials, officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, politicians, sports personalities 
and media representatives.

Guests at the event interacted with players and coaching staff following brief remarks.

The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 will feature leading cricketing nations competing across multiple venues in England and Wales, with England and 
Scotland also participating in the tournament.
