
KISHOREGANJ, June 16, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested three members of a
robbery gang in connection with the looting of a tourist boat in the haor
region of Mithamain upazila of the district.
Several locally-made weapons were also recovered during the operation.
Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said this at a
press conference held at the district police superintendent's office on
Tuesday afternoon.
The suspects were arrested on Monday during a joint operation conducted by
the District Detective Branch (DB) of Police and Mithamain Police Station in
different areas of Savar and Kamrangirchar in Dhaka, as well as Mithamain
upazila.
The arrested individuals were Md. Julhas Uddin, son of late Ismail Hossain of
Katkhal Kazipara village, Ehsanul Haque, son of Md. Hares Mia of Bajkpur
village and Rubel Mia, son of Madhu Mia of Borkanda Madhupur village in
Mithamain upazila.
According to the police superintendent, a gang of 10 to 12 robbers
intercepted a tourist boat bound for Karimganj on June 7 near the southern
side of Hasanpur Bridge in Mithamain upazila. The gang allegedly held
passengers hostage at gunpoint and looted their valuables using locally-made
weapons.
Police also said that the arrested individuals have multiple criminal cases
filed against them at different police stations, including cases related to
theft and narcotics.
The process of producing them before the court is currently underway, the
sources added.
