Legendary hockey player Abdus Sadeque passes away

DHAKA, June 20, 2026 (BSS)-National award-winning legendary hockey player Abdus Sadeque passed away today (Saturday) morning at the age of 80. 

He breathed his last in the morning at local hospital in Gulshan after suffering from old age complication for a prolonged period. 

Abdus Sadeque is survived by two sons, one daughter, relatives, friends, and hosts of admirers to mourn his death.

In addition to his distinguished career as a hockey player, Abdus Sadeque also earned widespread recognition as a footballer. He served as the captain of Abahani's first football team and was widely regarded as one of Bangladesh's finest all-round sports personalities.

Following his playing career, he continued to contribute to the country's sporting community as a sports organizer.

According to family sources, his first Janaza will be held after Asr at Baitus Sobhan Mosque in Bashundhara residential area, block L. The second Janaza will take place tomorrow (Sunday)at 10:30 am at the Banani DOHS field.
