Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, shed 6.5 points or 0.1% to settle at 5,247 points, as against 5,254 points in the previous trading session. 

Market analysts observed despite the majority of scrips closing in green, investors' buying interest fell short of keeping market indices to the positive territory. 

Meanwhile, market turnover slightly increased by 5.3% to Taka 4.9 billion as against Taka 4.6 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Textile (14.3%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (13.4%) and Bank (11.8%) sectors. 

However, sectors mostly displayed positive returns, out of which Paper (5.3%), Jute (2.6%) and Financial Institution (1.9%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while General Insurance (-0.5%), Services (-0.3%) and Ceramic (-0.3%) exerted the most corrections. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 193 advanced, 129 declined and 75 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a negative session today. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) decreased by 43.1 points and 50.2 points, respectively.
