Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, March 23, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, declined by 18.3 points to settle at 5,183 points, as against 5,202 points in the previous trading session. 

The market pulse remained downbeat, causing the majority of scrips slid into red territory as cautious investors preferred to remain watchful owing to concerns over the market outlook. 

Meanwhile, market turnover decreased by 15.3% to Taka 4.2 billion as against Taka 5.0 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Pharma (20.4%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (12.5%) and Engineering (10.0%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed dismal returns, out of which Paper (-2.3%), Jute (-1.6%) and Financial Institution (-1.4%) exerted the most corrections on the bourse today, while Cement (1.0%), Pharma (0.4%) and Travel (0.2%) exhibited slight positive returns. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 82 advanced, 249 declined and 66 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 17.9 and 38.2 points, respectively.
