ICAB holds webinar on ‘Evolving Role of Accountants in AML Compliance’

DHAKA, March 24, 2025 (BSS) - The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) organized a webinar on ‘Evolving Role of Accountants in AML Compliance’ today through zoom platform.
 
A. F. M. Shahinul Islam, Head of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), Bangladesh Bank joined the webinar as the chief guest while Nasir Uddin Ahmed, council member and former president, ICAB moderated the program as the session chairman. ICAB President Maria Howlader delivered the address of welcome. 

Scott Hanson, Director, Policy & Global Engagement, International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) presented the keynote paper while the panel discussants were Md Manirul Islam, Deputy Director, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), Bangladesh Bank and Md. Shahadat Hossain, council member and former president ICAB, said a press release.
 
ICAB CEO Shubhashish Bose made the opening remarks while Md. Johirul Islam, vice president, ICAB delivered the closing remarks. 

In his keynote paper, Scott Hanson, discussed anti money laundering (AML) and the accountancy profession in country context, the global AML framework and current scenario in Bangladesh and globally.
 
The keynote presenter opined that the professional accountancy organizations like ICAB, and the individual professional accountants, are the key stakeholders in the fight against corruption and money laundering. 

IFAC’s Anti-Corruption Action Plan is harnessing the full potential of education and professional development, supporting global standards, contributing to evidence-based policymaking, strengthening impact through engagement & partnership and contributing expertise through thought leadership and advocacy. 

As a founding member of IFAC, ICAB is always maintaining all these standards in rendering its services.  

The keynote presenter also thinks that a strong accountancy profession plays an important role in the fight against corruption.
