DHAKA, March 24, 2025 (BSS) – The Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has made a specific recommendation before the interim government to incorporate the provision for ensuring priority of the CAG office and its effectiveness alongside auditing for determining revenues and its realization in the draft ‘Public Audit Bill-2024’.

The TIB has already submitted its recommendations before the interim government for its consideration.

The recommendations include jurisdiction of auditing for national revenue and its realization, ensuring accountability of all concerned employees of those entities which are under auditing, jurisdiction of CAG to appoint its own manpower and formulating the necessary rules, said a press release.

On the draft of the Public Audit Bill-2024, the TIB has made five specific recommendations.

Besides, the TIB also suggested for ensuring the participation of independent experts and civil society representatives of the concerned sectors in the independent supervisory committee formed by the CAG, the independent supervisory committee will have to submit its report before the Public Accounts Committee of Jatiya Sangsad and thus make it public, all the manpower of the CAG office will have to be appointed by the CAG and thus be operated under its own human resource policy.

TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said that it is very much essential to bring the determination of revenue collection under auditing to avert tax evasion.
“We hope that the interim government will not succumb to any kind of illegal demand or pressure and thus take proper decisions in this regard,” he added.
