Stocks on DSE up, down on CSE

DHAKA , March 27, 2025 (BSS) - The country's premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) today extended its gaining streak to three consecutive sessions in the last trading session before Eid vacation as buyers showed interest in certain large-cap scrips, while overall market sentiment remains cautious. 


DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, inched up by 5.0 points or 0.1% to settle at 5,219 points, as against 5,214 points in the previous trading session. 


The market opened on a positive note, pulling the benchmark index to an intraday high of 5,229 points. 


However, selling pressure later emerged as some investors opted to book short-term profits from their recently appreciated holdings, inducing some volatility to the benchmark index.


Nevertheless, the benchmark index managed to settle in positive territory as buyers ended up on a slight dominant side as investors opted for rebalancing their portfolios ahead of the quarter-end. 

Meanwhile, market turnover remained sluggish, declining by 18.5% to Taka 3.2 billion as against Taka 3.9 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Pharma (19.1%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (10.8%) and Food (10.6%) sectors. Sectors displayed mixed returns, out of which Mutual Fund (2.2%), Paper (2.2%) and Ceramic (2.2%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Travel (-0.8%), Financial Institutions (-0.8%) and IT (-0.6%) exerted the most corrections.


Out of the 397 issues traded, 177 advanced, 148 declined and 72 remained unchanged.


However, The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange ( CSE),witnessed a negative session today. With the CSCX and CASPI indices decreased by 11.0 points and 16.7 points, respectively.
