DHAKA, Aug 2, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Mahmud Hasan Khan today termed the lowering of reciprocal tariff to 20 percent by the USA as a matter of 'big relief' for the Bangladeshi RMG industry.

Mahmud said this at a press conference organized by the BGMEA at its office in the capital today on the recent reduction of tariff on Bangladeshi exports to the USA.

He also expressed deep gratitude to the interim government, particularly to the Commerce Adviser, National Security Adviser and the Bangladesh team for their successful tariff negotiations with the USA leading to this development.

The BGMEA president, however, cautioned against complacency, emphasizing that the industry must continue to enhance its competitiveness while expecting continued policy support from the government.

He expressed optimism that through the combined efforts from the industry owners, the government, labor organizations and civil society, this development on tariff could open up a new era of opportunities rather than remaining as a trade barrier.

Presided over by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, the press conference was attended, among others, by Senior Vice-President Inamul Haque Khan (Bablu), Vice-President Md. Rezwan Selim, Vice-President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Vice-President Md. Shihab Uddoja Chowdhury, Directors Shah Raed Chowdhury, Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Faisal Samad, Md. Hasib Uddin, Mohammad Abdus Salam, Nafis-ud-Doula, Majumder Arifur Rahman, Jowardar Mohammad Hosne Komar Alam, Asef Kamal Pasha, Rumana Rashid and Samiha Azim.
