Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Aug 04, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.
 
 DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, declined by 50.2 points to settle at 5,486 points as against 5,536 points in the previous trading session. 
 
Market turnover also decreased by 19.8% to Taka 9.1 billion compared to Taka 11.4 billion in the previous session. 
 
On the sectoral front, Bank (25.6%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharmaceuticals (14.1%) and Fuel & Power (8.9%) sectors.
 
Sectors mostly displayed negative returns, out of which Textile (1.9%), Bank (1.8%) and Cement (1.3%) exerted the most corrections returns on the bourse today.
 
Out of the 397 issues traded, 121 advanced, 206 declinedand 70 remained unchanged.
 
The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a profit-taking session. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 42.1 points and 68.2 points, respectively.
