Govt to procure 50,000 MTs gasoline, one research vessel

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS) - The government today approved separate proposals in principle for procuring some 50,000 metric tons of gasoline to meet the growing demand for energy, and one small research vessel, one pontoon jetty with gangway and two speed boats to strengthen oceanographic research in the country.

The approvals came from the 24th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs in this year held today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat today with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the meeting approved a proposal in principle for importing an additional 50,000 MT (10+ACU-) of Gasoline 95 Unleaded (Octane) in calendar year 2025.

In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the meeting approved a proposal in principle for procurement through following international Direct Procurement Method (DPM) for the construction work of the ropeway at Indian side under the project +ACI-Conversion of Wet Process to Dry Process of CCCL.+ACI-

The meeting also okayed two proposals in principle from the Ministry of Science and Technology to procure one small Research Vessel for sample collection with necessary research equipment and two Speedboats from Khulna Shipyard Ltd through DPM method under GD-1 package of the project +ACI-Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (Phase 2) (1st Revised)+ACI- 

Besides, under the GD-5 package of the same project, the government would procure one Pontoon, jetty and Gangway for safe berthing of the small research vessel from Khulna Shipyard Ltd.

Besides, the meeting approved another proposal in principle from the Ministry of Food reducing the timeframe for procurement process following the international tender method under the Section 83(1)(Ka) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2008 for procuring 4.00 lakh metric tons of rice through international tender method for urgent state needs.
