Govt to procure 1 cargo LNG, 70,000MTs fertilizer, 25,000 MTs sugar

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS) - The government today approved separate proposals for procuring one cargo of LNG, 70,000 metric tons of fertilizer, and 25,000 metric tons of refined sugar to meet the growing demands in the country.

The approvals came from the 30th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase in this year held today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat today with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Finance Adviser said that following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the government would procure one cargo of LNG from the spot market through the international quotation method from M/S Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd, Singapore, at around Taka 517.19 crore, with per MMBtu LNG costing $12.289.

In response to two separate proposals from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer under the 8th lot from MA'ADEN, Saudi Arabia, at around Taka 383.62 crore, with per ton fertilizer costing $781, while the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer under the first lot from KAFCO, Bangladesh, at around Taka 164.91 crore, where per ton fertilizer would cost $448.37.

Besides, the day's purchase committee meeting approved another proposal from the Ministry of Commerce under which the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would procure 25,000 metric tons of refined sugar through the international Open Tender Method (OTM) at around Taka 175.98 crore, with per kg sugar costing Taka 106.66.
