Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Aug 19, 2025 (BSS) – Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), today plunged mainly due to price fall in large-cap securities.
 
DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, shed 9.0 points or 0.2% to settle at 5,411 points compared to 5,420 points in the previous trading session.
 
Meanwhile, investors participation remained robust, with market turnover further increasing by 6.3% to reach Taka 10.4 billion.
 
On the sectoral front, Pharmaceutical (20.9%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Textile (13.2%) and Bank (10.2%) sectors. 
 
Sectors mostly displayed mixed returns, out of which Textile (1.5%), Services (1.4%) and IT (1.1%) showed the most gains on the bourse today, while Bank (-1.5%), Tannery (-1.1%) and Telecommunication (-1.0%) exerted the most corrections.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 163 advanced, 160 declined and 74 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also experienced a flat session today. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) inched up by 3.5 and 7.4 points, respectively.
