Bangladesh Bank dissolves Premier Bank board

DHAKA, Aug 19, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Bank (BB) has dissolved the previous board of Premier Bank and formed a new six-member board of directors.
 
In the newly reconstituted board, Dr Arifur Rahman has been appointed as a director representing the bank's sponsor shareholders, BB acting spokesperson Mohammad Shahriar Siddiqui told BSS today.
 
The independent directors are - former Bangladesh Bank executive director Md Forkan Hossain, former additional managing director of United Commercial Bank Syed Faridul Islam, former deputy managing director of Bank Asia Md Sazzad Hossain, IBA professor at Dhaka University Sheikh Morshed Jahan, and FCS Chartered Secretary M Nurul Alam.
 
Prior to the restructuring, the board was led by chairman Mohammad Imran Iqbal, with Jamal G Ahmed serving as vice-chairman. Other members included Abdus Salam Murshedy, Shafiqur Rahman, Shaila Shelley Khan, Yeh Cheng Min, and Mohammed Ahmed Ali.
 
With this move, Bangladesh Bank has so far reconstituted the boards of 15 banks since August 15, 2024.
