Stocks witness up on large-cap vibe

DHAKA, Aug 24, 2025 (BSS) – Stocks today witnessed upward trend as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges were found rising with higher activities of some large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, advanced by 14.2 points to settle at 5,389 points as against 5,375 points in the previous trading session. 

Market analysts observed that buyers dominated the trading floor throughout the session as invigorated market activity drew stronger investor participation, strengthening the market’s upward trajectory.

Meanwhile, market turnover also surged to a 1-year high, rising by 56.5% to Taka 12.0 billion from Taka 7.7 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Textile (16.4%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (15.0%) and General Insurance (8.8%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed positive returns, out of which Paper (4.7%), Life Insurance (4.6%) and Textile (3.6%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Mutual Fund (-1.6%), Ceramic (-1.0%) and Bank (-1.8%) exerted the most corrections.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 180 advanced, 187 declined and 30 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on positive terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 33.5 points and 32.6 points, respectively.
