Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Sept 1, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, shed 10.6 points to settle at 5,584 points as against 5,594 points in the previous trading session. 

Market turnover remained resilient, with a mild decrease of 8.9% to Taka 11.8 billion from Taka 13.0 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Pharmaceutical (14.8%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Textile (12.2%) and Engineering (8.6%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed mixed returns, out of which Jute (3.3%), Life Insurance (2.5%) and Services (2.3%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Travel (-2.4%), Ceramic (-2.2%) and Textile (-1.6%) exerted the most corrections.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 117 advanced, 242 declined and 38 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, however, settled on positive terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) added 6.9 points and 17.0 points, respectively.
