DHAKA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS) - The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has officially published the authentic English text of the Income Tax Act, 2023 through government gazette notification SRO No-404-Law/2025, dated October 16, 2025.

The English version was released following continuous demands from foreign investors who sought an official government gazette publication of the authentic English text for clarity and legal reference.

After the enactment of the Income Tax Act, 2023, which replaced the Income Tax Ordinance, 1984, foreign investors had expressed concern over the absence of an official English version. The lack of an authentic English text often created confusion in interpretation and compliance, leading to legal complications for foreign entities operating in Bangladesh, said an NBR press release.

According to the NBR, the publication of the authentic English text will now enable both local and foreign taxpayers to have a clear and transparent understanding of the law.

It is expected to boost investors' confidence, eliminate ambiguities in application, and ensure greater transparency and accuracy in tax administration.

The NBR further informed that the authentic English texts of the Customs Act, 2023 and the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012 are in the final stages of preparation.

The revenue board expressed optimism that these English versions will also be published in the government gazette soon, fulfilling the long-standing demand of domestic and foreign investors alike.
