DHAKA, June 22, 2026 (BSS) – Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Md. Nurul Islam today directed the full implementation of the Online Pension Tracking and Management System (OPTMS) to enhance transparency, efficiency and accountability in pension processing for retired government employees.
“The OPTMS is being developed as part of the government's broader digital governance agenda, building on the success of post-retirement pension automation. The system aims to digitize pre-retirement and pension processing activities across the CGA, CGDF and Railway Finance offices, reducing dependence on manual procedures and minimizing delays,” he added.
Nurul Islam made the remarks while speaking at a progress review meeting at the CAG office in the city, said a press release.
In his speech, Nurul Islam stressed the importance of providing a seamless digital service for pensioners and ensuring faster settlement of pension-related procedures.
Senior representatives from the Office of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), the Controller General Defence Finance (CGDF) and Bangladesh Railway's finance division attended the meeting.
A technical presentation at the meeting demonstrated the platform's key features, including a self-service tracking facility that will allow pensioners to monitor the real-time status and location of their pension files online immediately after submission.
Officials said the feature is expected to improve transparency and reduce uncertainty for retirees.
To accelerate implementation, the CAG issued a series of directives to the participating agencies.
He instructed the CGA, CGDF and Bangladesh Railway finance authorities to maintain close coordination with the technical team working under the Strengthening Public Financial Management Program (SPFMS).
He also ordered the incorporation of recommendations from the CGA into the system framework and directed the CGDF and Railway Finance authorities to urgently finalize and submit their business processes for integration into the platform.
Emphasizing pensioners' welfare, Md. Nurul Islam called for maximum caution in issuing the Estimated Last Pay Certificate (ELPC) and urged officials to address complications related to service statements to prevent hardship for retirees.
Concluding the meeting, the CAG expressed optimism that coordinated efforts among all stakeholders would enable the OPTMS to become fully operational in a short time.
He described the initiative as a significant step toward a transparent, accountable and time-bound public service delivery system, ensuring that retired public servants receive efficient and responsive pension services.
