DHAKA, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - The government today approved the import of a total of 110,000 tonnes of fertilizers from Belarus, Morocco and Saudi Arabia to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential farm inputs for the country’s agricultural sector.

The approvals were given at the 43rd meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held at the Cabinet Division in the city with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

The committee approved three separate proposals involving the procurement of 30,000 tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MoP), 40,000 tonnes of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 40,000 tonnes of granular urea.

Under the first proposal, the Ministry of Agriculture will procure 30,000 tonnes of MoP fertilizer from Belarus through local agent M/S Suphala Trading Corporation.

The procurement will cost  at a rate of $398.97 per tonne.

The committee also approved the import of 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertilizer from Morocco under a government-to-government agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and OCP NUTRICROPS, S.A.

The procurement, which is the second lot under the agreement, will cost around TK 439.86 crore at $889.33 per tonne.

Besides, the Ministry of Industries received approval to import 40,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia, as the fourth lot for meeting fertilizer requirements in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The urea procurement will cost around TK 193.71 crore at $391.66 per MT.

The CCGP reviewed a total of 18 procurement proposals at today's meeting.

Two proposals concerning the import of phosphoric acid for DAP Fertilizer Company Ltd and TSP Complex Limited (TSPCL) were withdrawn from the agenda at the request of the Ministry of Industries.
