Bus-helper's killer gets life imprisonment in Khulna

KHULNA, Jan 6, 2025 (BSS)- A trial court here today convicted a rickshaw-puller and sentenced him to life imprisonment for killing a bus-helper in the city around four years back.

The convict, identified as Hassan Sheikh, a resident of Mollabari area under Sonadanga Police Station, was also fined Taka 20,000, in default, to suffer six months more behind the bar.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sharif Hossain Haider found him guilty of the murder charge and pronounced the verdict in presence of him in the court.

According to the prosecution story, rickshaw-puller Hassan Sheikh got locked into an altercation with bus-helper Shabbir Sheikh over a minor issue on February 11, 2021.

At one stage of the altercation, Hassan Sheikh chopped Shabbir to death with a knife inside the bus at Tiger Garden area under Sonadanga Police Station in the city.

Father of the deceased Rafiqul Islam had lodged a case with the Sonadanga Police Station on the following day. Police arrested Hassan Sheikh on the same day.

Upon completion of the investigation, police pressed charge accusing him on April 25 , 2021.
