DU tops among Bangladeshi universities in QS Asia Rankings

DHAKA, Nov 5, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka University (DU) has once again been ranked as the top university in Bangladesh in the QS Asia University Rankings, published by the UK-based higher education and research organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

According to the ranking released on November 4, DU secured the 132nd position in Asia and 17th position in South Asia, a DU press release said today.

Last year, DU also topped among Bangladeshi universities in the same ranking, which is usually published at the beginning of November every year.

This year's list includes 1,529 universities across Asia. The University of Hong Kong topped the list, followed by the Peking University of China in the second position.

The ranking primarily considers indicators such as academic reputation, the number of PhD holders and the proportion of international students.

In the global QS World University Rankings, Dhaka University currently holds the 584th position.

Recently, DU also secured the top position among Bangladeshi universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, advancing 200 places to be listed among the world's top 1,000 universities.

Additionally, 35 DU teachers and researchers have been included in the World's Top 2% Scientists 2025 list - the highest number from any university in Bangladesh.

A 16-member committee has been working for several years to improve DU's position in global rankings under the overall guidance of DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed is the convener of this committee.

The committee has undertaken various initiatives to enhance academic and research standards, strengthen international collaboration and promote faculty and student exchanges.
The relentless effort of the committee is gradually reflecting in the rankings.

VC Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan congratulated all DU teachers, students, and staff for this achievement while the ranking committee convener, Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed expressed his gratitude to everyone involved for their contributions to the success.
