Youth gets 17-year jail in arms case in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 7, 2025 (BSS) - A court here on Tuesday sentenced a youth to 
17 years imprisonment in an arms case under Pahartali Police Station in the 
port city.

The convicted accused Md. Sentu Mia, 32, son of late Benu Mia, hailed from 
Muradnagar Police Station in Cumilla district. 

The court of Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sirajam Munira 
announced the verdict in absence of the convict.
 
The accused is absconding, she said, adding that an arrest warrant has been 
issued against him.

According to the prosecution story, acting on a tip-off, a petrol team of 
Pahartali Thana police detained the convicted person with a LG gun and one 
cartridge from a check post in the city's Pahartali area on September 14, 
2004.
 
Md. Nur Nabi, sub-inspector (SI) of Pahartali Thana, filed a case with the 
police station on September 15, 2004 under the Arms Act. 

On September 28, 2004, police submitted a charge-sheet against the convicted 
persons after the investigation.

A court in Chattogram framed charges on February 24, 2005 and ordered to 
begin the trial. 
 
After hearing, the court handed down the punishment today.
