CHATTOGRAM, Jan 7, 2025 (BSS) - A Chattogram court today ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to re-investigate the case filed against former OC Nazimuddin Majumder of Panchlaish thana under CMP and its former Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Aziz.

The police officials were implicated in a case for allegedly torturing Syed Mohammad Mustakim, a student, in police custody. The case was filed on February 20, 2023 and after investigation, a CID official having status of SP earlier submitted final report before a court on May 11, 2024.

Following a review petition seeking fresh investigation by accused persons, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sarker Hasan Shariar today issued the order, court sources said.

The court also asked PBI to re-investigate and submit a report within a shortest possible time.

According to the case statement, Mustakim took his mother to Chattogram Medical College  Hospital (CMCH)  for kidney dialysis on January 10 in 2023. Police arrested him when he along with some kidney patients and their relatives were protesting the hike in dialysis fees at the hospital. At one stage, the protesters blocked the road in front of the main gate of CMCH.

Police reached to the spot and requested the protesters to withdraw the blockade. As the agitators refused to leave the place, the then OC Nazimuddin of Panchlaish thana detained  Mustakim and later, tortured him mercilessly in custody.

Police also filed a case against him on charges of assaulting law enforcers and obstructing their work, added the case statement.

After getting bail, victim Syed Mohammad Mustakim filed the case before the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Begum Zebunnesa implicating the police officials for torturing him along with others.
