BGB arrests five smugglers, seized drugs from Lalmonirhat border

LALMONIRHAT, Jan 9, 2025 (BSS) -The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested five smugglers from different bordering areas of the district in the last seven days, official sources said here today.

They also seized different types of drugs from their possession and some left in abandoned condition during the period, the sources added.

The local BGB authority has declared ‘zero tolerance’ policy in curbing drug trading and smuggling in the border and beefed up surveillance and patrolling activities in the bordering areas.

As part of their drive, BGB teams arrested five smugglers and seized two trucks used for carrying drugs and contraband items worth about taka 12,75,000 from January 2 to January 8. The seized contraband items are - India Phensidyl syrup, escape syrup, ganza, liquor, sugar, cumin, jute and cattle heads.

The seized drugs were handed over to the local office of the Department of Narcotics Control and other goods were deposited to the local customs department.

The arrested smugglers were handed over to local police for taking legal action against them.

When contacted, Commanding Officer (CO) of the 15th Battalion of BGB Lieutenant Colonel Shah Md Sakil Alam told BSS that the BGB is now on a strict position to curb the smuggling and drugs trading through the bordering areas.
