3 arrested over Bakul murder in Rangpur, one confesses in court

RANGPUR, Jan 9, 2025(BSS) - The Rangpur Metropolitan Police arrested three persons over the murder of one Gazi Bakul in city's bus terminal area and one of the arrested persons yesterday confessed his involvement in the killing, official sources said here today.

Arrested Tariqul Islam made the confessional statement in the court.

Md Majid Ali, commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, told BSS that police, on the basis of intelligence information and analyzing electronic devices, yesterday arrested Tariqul Islam from Nilphamari.

At one stage of interrogation, Tariqul confessed his involvement in the murder, the commissioner said, adding that he was later produced before the court of additional chief judicial magistrate where he gave a confessional statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

In the confessional statement, Tariqul said that he and his friend Sujon, both from Nilphamari, on October 28 strangulated Bakul to death at his rented house at bus terminal area as he trapped them by alluring with two prostitutes and recorded their illicit activities on mobile phones. Bakul and his accomplices demanded Taka 3,00,000 from them and threatened to publish the illicit video on social media.

At one stage on that night, when all accomplices of Bakul left him alone in the house, they strangulated to him death, Tariqul said, adding that after the killing they went into hiding.

Bakul used to run a mini-prostitution renting the house of Jisan and cheated people by adopting various illicit means, Tariqul added.
       
Police later arrested Jisan Ahmed, owner of the house and Bakul's accomplice Jabed from the area in this connection.
