One gets life-term in drugs case in C'nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Jan 10, 2025 (BSS) - A court here on Thursday afternoon
sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drug case.

District and Sessions Judge Md. Mizanur Rahman announced the verdict in presence of the convict.

The convict was Liakat Ali, 36, of Chandipur
Ghonapara under Nayalabhanga union of Shibganj upazila of the district.

The court also fined him Taka 5,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.

According to the prosecution story, in brief, during an anti-drug drive in Battala Bazar area under Nayalabhanga union, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Liakat with 1.5 kilograms of heroin on November 5, 2020.

On the day, Nayeb Subedar of RAB-5 Md. Abu Taleb filed a case with Shibganj Police Station against Liakat Ali.

Later, the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case Sub-inspector (SI) Ataur Hossain of Shibganj thana submitted a charge-sheet against Liakat Ali on November 30, 2020.

After hearing the witnesses and examining other relevant evidences, the court handed down the verdict, the court sources said.
