Fog disrupts normal life in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 11, 2025 (BSS) - Dense fog paralysed normal life in the city and the adjacent areas of the district causing disruption to air, water and road communications.

Dense fog coupled with cold wave that sweeps over different parts of the district causes immense sufferings to the people especially the poor one, Met Office sources said today.

Bishojit Chowdhury an officer of Patenga Met Office said night temperature may fall slightly in Chattogram and its adjacent upazilas of the divisions and it may remain nearly unchanged for week as elsewhere in the country, it said.

The lowest temperature was recorded at 15.5 degree Celsius at city's Patenga today.

Engineer Ibrahim Khalil, Public Relations Officer of Chattogram Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport (CSAIA) told BSS that three international flights were unable to land at the airport due to dense fog.
  
Three International flights have compelled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday morning. After the fog cleared, these flights landed in CSAIA again with passengers after two to three hours, Khalil said. 

He said dense fog also disrupted schedules of three domestic flights delaying their operation.

Chattogram Port Secretary Omar Faruk, said movement of vessels through port channel remained suspended for two to three hours in early hours of today due to thick fog. 

Child Specialists Dr Badrul Alam, also former Principal of Chattogram Medical college hospital, told BSS that people mostly infants and elderly one have been suffering various cold related diseases.

Street people are seen lighting fires to keep them warm as the Sun remains invisible from morning up to early noon due to dense fog.
