Illegal goods worth Tk 4.2cr seized, 47 held in Sunamganj in January

SUNAMGANJ, Feb 9, 2025 (BSS)- A meeting of the district law and order 
committee today disclosed that illegal items worth about Taka 4,20,28,447 
were seized from different parts of the district during the month of January.

The meeting held at the office conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) 
also disclosed that the law enforcement agencies of the district have 
arrested 47 people in their 430 drives and filed 273 cases in this 
connection.
 
Mohammad Rezaul Karim, additional district magistrate (ADM) of the district, 
revealed the information at the meeting with DC Dr Md Ilias Miah in the 
chair.

A total of 46 mobile courts in its 101 operations realized Taka 14,26,500 as 
fine from 101 people from January 1 to January 31, he said, adding, "The 
mobile courts also awarded various terms of punishment to 18 people during 
the drives."

The meeting was addressed, among others, by local Public Prosecutor Advocate 
Mallik Moin Uddin Sohel, President of the District Bar Association Advocate 
Abdul Haque, General Secretary of District Anti-Corruption Committee freedom 
fighter Haji Nurul Momen, retired Civil Surgeon Dr Syed Monowar Ali, 
Superintendent of Sunamganj 250-beded Hospital Dr Mahbubur Rahman and 
District Fisheries Officer Shamsul Haque.
 
Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) of different upazilas and Officers-in-Charge 
(OCs) of different police stations of the district were present at the 
meeting.
