Three industries fined Tk 20 lakh in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, Feb 10 (BSS) - A mobile court of the Department of Environment 
(DoE) has fined three industries Taka 20 lakh in Gazaria upazila of the 
district for violating the Environment Act. 

The industries are Bashundhara Industrial Limited, JMI Industrial Park and 
Anwar Cement Limited of Gazaria upazila.

Mizanur Rahman, deputy director of the DoE, said from Sunday 4 pm to 11 pm, 
the mobile court conducted a drive in Vitikandi and Tetaitala areas of the 
upazila and fined the industries, in default to suffer 15 days in jail each 
as their environmental clearance certificates were not renewed.

The mobile court fined JMI Industrial Park Taka 10 lakh, Bashundhara 
Industrial Limited Taka five lakh and Anwar Cement Limited Taka five lakh.

In addition, a deadline was set for three industries to comply with all 
environmental rules and regulations within the next three months.

The campaign was conducted by Shahidul Islam, special magistrate for 
Environment and Senior Judicial Magistrate under the Chief Judicial 
Magistrate's Court.

Ifti Hasan Imran, special magistrate for Environment and senior judicial 
magistrate under the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, Mizanur Rahman, 
deputy director of the DoE and its Senior Chemist Md. Sanwar Hossain were 
also present during the drive.
