Operation Devil Hunt: 8 more held in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Feb 14, 2025 (BSS) - Under the ongoing Operation Devil Hunt, the 
joint forces have arrested eight more leaders of Awami League (AL) and its 
associate organisations from different areas of the district in the last two 
days.
 
Of the detainees, five people have been arrested from Rangpur metropolis and 
three others from different upazilas of the district during the last 48 hours 
ending at 6 am today. 
 
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Crime) of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police Dr. 
Ashiq Mahmud and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rangpur Abu Md Saim 
confirmed the arrests to journalists. 
 
They have been arrested in connections with attacks on the anti-
discrimination student movement processions, murder cases and attempted 
murder cases filed with different police stations in the district.
 
According to police sources, five people have been arrested from Rangpur 
metropolis areas under Haragachh and Kotwali Police Stations. 
 
They are Rangpur Divisional Organizing Secretary of Sheikh Russell Memorial 
Social Welfare Organization Md Rahid Islam Rolex of CO Bazar area in Rangpur 
city, Rangpur Metropolitan Awami Matsyajibi League President Md Mostafizur 
Rahman, Sarai Haragachh ward no 8 AL President Md Masum Khan, Haragachh 
municipal AL Organising Secretary Md Shahidul Islam and Rangpur district Jubo 
League Vice-president Md Shafikuzzaman Shipon of Lalbag area in Rangpur city.
 
The other three leaders of Awami League and its associate organisations 
arrested by the joint forces from Rangpur Sadar, Pirganj and Mithapukur 
upazilas are: Kholeya union parisahd chairman in Sadar upazila and AL member 
Md Mottaleb Hossain, Baro Alampur Union Parishad chairman in Pirganj upazila 
Md Selim Mian and local AL activist Md Raihanul Yamin of Baro Mirjapur 
village in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur.
 
Later, the arrested persons were handed over to the respective police 
stations, police said.
