Student's good mental health is base of educational progress: BRUR VC

RANGPUR, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali has said that good mental health is the foundation of a student's educational progress, work efficiency, and social behaviour.

"In today's rapidly changing society, students are at risk of various mental stresses, anxiety, and depression. Raising their awareness about these issues and ensuring necessary support is the need of the hour," he said.

The Vice-Chancellor made the remarks while addressing a seminar titled "Mental Health, Depression and Its Remedies" held at the virtual classroom of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the university on Thursday afternoon as the chief guest.

The seminar was organised by the Scholarship Support Office of Begum Rokeya University and attended by students from various departments of the university.

Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Rangpur Prime Medical College and Hospital Dr Khandaker Anjuman Ara Begum presented the keynote paper on mental health, depression, and their effective remedies.

Director of the Office of the Students' Affairs of the university Professor Dr Md Ileas Pramanik and Deputy Chief of its Medical Centre Dr AMM Shahriar attended the event as special guests.

In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor said the university has already arranged for specialist doctors and counselling services to help students access mental health support easily.

"Such student-friendly initiatives will be further expanded in the future to build a healthier and more supportive academic environment," he added.
