4-day tourism fair, food festival begins at RU

RAJSHAHI, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - A four-day tourism fair and food festival began at Rajshahi University (RU) today, calling for greater promotion of tourism as the region is rich in archaeological heritage and natural beauty.

The RU authority is hosting the fair in front of the Rabindranath Tagore Academic Building for the third consecutive year.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib inaugurated the event as chief guest, while Pro-VCs Professor Mayeen Uddin and Professor Farid Uddin Khan attended as special guests. 

Among others, Treasurer Professor Matiar Rahman, Business Studies Faculty Dean Professor SM Kamruzzaman, and Registrar Professor Iftekharul Alam Masud were also present at the event.

Director of the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) Abu Selim Mahmudul Hassan attended as chief patron, while Chairman of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management Professor Zahid Hossain chaired the ceremony.

In his keynote presentation, former CEO of BTB Zabed Ahmed highlighted the tourism prospects of the region and said local tourists can play a vital role in revitalising the sector. 

He added that a 20-year master plan is underway to ensure sustainable development of the country's tourism industry.

The four-day event features a colourful rally, folk songs, discussions, and cultural performances.
