Banned BCL leader held in Dhaka

SIRAJGANJ, March 1, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested a leader of Bangladesh 
Chhatra League (BCL), the banned organisation, from the capital Dhaka for his 
alleged involvement in the murder case of Sohanur Rahman Ranju, assistant 
general secretary of the district Jubo Dal during the anti-discrimination 
student movement last year.

The arrested was Abdullah Bin Ahmed, former general secretary of the district 
BCL unit and also a resident of Railway Colony area of Sirajganj 
municipality. 

He was arrested from the capital's Karwan Bazar area on Friday night, said 
Mobarak Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tejgaon Police Station, this 
afternoon.

Abdullah Bin Ahmed will be sent to Sirajganj district jail through the court, 
he said.

OC of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Humayun Kabir said the banned BCL leader 
Abdullah is the accused in the murder case of Sirajganj district Jubo Dal 
leader Ranju. 

During the anti-discrimination student movement on August 4, 2024 Ranju was 
shot and hacked to death in front of the Awami League (AL) office on SS Road 
in Sirajganj district.

After the incident, Moushumi Khatun, wife of the deceased, filed a case with 
Sadar Police Station named 150 people of Sirajganj District Awami League, 
Chhatra League and Jubo League as accused along with 100-150 unknown people.
