GAIBANDHA, MAR 04, 2025 (BSS) - A month-long iftar and dinner program for orphan and distressed people have been launched here.

In continuation of the past six years' charity, the Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a local voluntary organization, with its own fund launched the feeding program for the unprivileged people of society on the first day of Ramadan.

A.K.M Hedaitul Islam, additional deputy commissioner (General), inaugurated the program as the chief guest.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader and former member of parliament (MP) Saiful Alam Saza, Brigadier General (Retired) Rakibur Rahman Daales, and invited dignitaries as well as journalists were present at the event.

Highlighting the significance of Ramadan, additional deputy commissioner said, "Muslims across the world observe the holy month through fasting, prayers and reflection. It is the month in which the Quran was revealed to our prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM)."

He also commended the GUK and its staff for their dedication to serving the underprivileged people.

GUK chief executive Abdus Salam said that the program aims to provide iftar and dinnar to at least 450 poor and distressed people every day throughout the month.
