Moderate earthquake jolts Sylhet, adjacent areas

SYLHET, Mar 5, 2025 (BSS) - A moderate earthquake shook Sylhet and its adjacent areas this morning, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The earthquake, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, had its epicenter in the Myanmar-India border region, said a earthquake occurrence message issued by BMD Teleprinter Operator Md Golam Mostafa on Wednesday.

It struck at 11:36 AM and was located approximately 449 km northeast of the BMD Seismic Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka.

Despite the tremors, no reports of damage or casualties have been recorded.
