Two killed, 21 injured in Bogura road crash

BOGURA, March 21, 2025 (BSS) - Two people were killed and at least 21 others injured as a truck hit a pedestrian and subsequently crashed into a three-wheeler in Ranabirbala area on Sherpur-Dhonut road here in the district at 6:30am today.

Police identified the deceased as Harun-Or-Rashid, 52, son of late Kachim Uddin of Jajar village under Khamarkandi union of Sherpur upazila and day laborer Hanif Uddin, 35, son of late Habibur Rahman Pramanik of Hossenbad village of the same union.

The three-wheeler was carrying 17 women and five men who were traveling from Jajar area to Kusumbi for potato harvesting. Of them, one died on the spot and all other passengers were injured in the accident.

The injured persons are Sundari, 45, Basonti, 50, Surboti, 45, Chaina, 40, Pabitra, 45, Sorosoti, 55, Sagarika, 50, Sunil, 50, Monontor, 48, Poyotri, 52, Md. Sattar, 60, Basori, 50 and Khonnosoyi, 50 all residents of Jajar area.

However, identities of seven critically injured passengers could not be known as locals took them to hospital immediately.

Eyewitness Aminul Islam said, "The truck, coming from Dhonut, ran over pedestrian Hanif Uddin near the Ranabirbala Bashir Pagla Mazar area. It dragged him for nearly 200 yards and subsequently crashed into the three-wheeler."

He said pedestrian Harun-Or-Rashid and three-wheeler passenger Hanif Uddin died on the spot.

Sherpur Fire Service In-Charge Bakhtiyar Uddin said they rushed to the place of occurrence quickly and took the injured to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex.

Meanwhile, police seized the truck but no one has been arrested in connection with the incident so far, said Sherpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tofazzal Hossen.

He said legal proceeding were underway in this incident.
