KHULNA, March 22, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested five members of the notorious robbery gang 'Sumon Bahini' last night while they were preparing to loot a commercial ship at Pashur Channel in Mongla Sea Port.

The arrested individuals were identified as Md Jony, 19, Aliraj, 25, Swapon Munsi, 40, Md Azim, 26 and Md Mesbah 19, hails from Mongla upazila in Bagerhat and Koyra upazila in Khulna.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Coast Guard's Mongla West Zone conducted a drive in the Bhadra area of the Sundarbans, successfully capturing the robbers along with the illegal items, said Lieutenant Colonel Siam-ul-Haque, the Coast Guard's media spokesperson.

During the drive, the Coast Guard seized 12 lethal weapons, nine contraband yaba tablets, 25 grams of weed and a motorized trawler used by the gang.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mongla Police Station, Md Anisur Rahman confirmed that the arrested suspects were handed over to the police today.

The detainees were wanted in multiple cases, including drug peddling and wildlife smuggling from the Sundarbans, registered at Mongla and Koyra police stations.
