LGED engineer jailed for five years in Khulna

KHULNA, March 25, 2025 (BSS) - A Khulna Court today sentenced S M Habibullah, a sub-assistant engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) of Koyra upazila, to five years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Md Ashraful Islam, Judge of the Khulna Divisional Special Judge Court, pronounced the verdict in presence of the accused, Md Yasin Ali, Bench assistant of the court confirmed.

The Judge also fined him Taka 5,000. In default, he will have to serve an additional two months of RI.

According to the prosecution, S M Habibullah, son of Borhan Uddin, hailed from Borobaria village under Chitolmari upazila in Bagerhat was caught red handed by ACC while he was taking bribe Taka one lakh from Zahangir, a contractor on April 16 in 2014.

Abul Hashem, deputy-assistant director of ACC of Khulna filed a case against engineer Habibullah on the same day with Koyra Police Station in this connection.

On August 31, 2015, S M Shamim Iqbal, deputy-assistant director of ACC pressed charge sheet to the court accusing Habibullah.
