DHAKA, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail Jalal Ahmed, an independent vice-president (VP) candidate in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election, in a case filed over an alleged attempt to murder his roommate at Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman passed the order as police produced Jalal before the court and prayed to keep him behind bars till completion of investigation. A bail plea filed on behalf of Jalal was rejected by the court.

According to the case documents, Jalal returned to his room no. 462 of the hall around 12:30 am, where his roommate Md Rabiul Haque was asleep. Jalal began moving chairs, which woke Rabiul. As Rabiul asked him to lower the noise, Jalal got enraged and hurled a chair at him.

The attack injured Rabiul on his forehead. Jalal then struck him with an old tube light, causing severe injuries to his chest and left hand. Hearing the commotion, other students rushed in, apprehended Jalal and handed him over to police.

Later, Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall Proctor Md Sirajul Islam filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station in this connection.
