DHAKA, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is an eternal symbol of rebellion.

"National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is an eternal emblem of rebellion," he said in a message on the poet's 49th death anniversary.

The BNP secretary general said, "On the 49th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, I pay my deep respects to his memory. I pray for eternal peace of his departed soul."

He said, "The exceptional literary creations of poet Kazi Nazrul during his brief 23-year literary journey placed Bangla language and literature at the greater height. He was one of the most prominent Bangla poets, novelists, playwrights, and musicians of the 20th century. He is our National Poet."

Fakhrul said his literary works resonated with the message of humanity. His poems and songs played a revolutionary role in the anti-British movement, he added.

"Through his unique creations, he voiced (his) protest against injustice, and inspired the neglected and oppressed people to rise against exploiters and tyrants. So, he became an eyesore to the British rulers and was subjected to imprisonment and torture," the BNP secretary general said.

He went on saying, Nazrul is an eternal symbol of resistance against injustice.

"His talents manifested in diverse forms of literature and the arts. But above all, he is a poet. His writings inspire us with patriotism," Fakhrul said.

He ended, saying, "Nazrul dedicated himself to literature with a vow to establish peace, equality, and humanity in society. I believe that Kazi Nazrul Islam will remain immortal forever through his creations."
