Genocide Day observed in Khulna

KHULNA, March 25, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna district administration observed the Genocide Day here today in a befitting manner.

To mark the day, a discussion meeting was held this morning at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room here. 

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam presided over the meeting. Additional superintendent of police Md. Hafizur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner Nurul Hai Mohammad Anas, freedom fighter Mohammad Moniruzzaman, and divisional director of the passport office Md. Abu Sayed, among others, addressed.

At the beginning of the meeting, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of all the martyrs who were victims of the genocide carried out by the Pakistani occupation forces on the black night of March 25, 1971.

The deputy commissioner said, "As a nation, we are going through a critical time. If we hesitate now, we will fall behind once again. At such a moment, the significance of March 25 Genocide Day is far-reaching". 

The speakers said, "March 25 is a significant milestone in our national history. On this day in 1971, the Pakistani occupation forces launched "Operation Searchlight," indiscriminately killing unarmed Bengalis in an attempt to annihilate the Bengali nation".

Officials of various government departments were also present.
