Discussion on Genocide Day held in Magura

MAGURA, March 25, 2025 (BSS) - A discussion was held today here in the district, marking the Genocide Day, one of the darkest chapters in the country when Pakistani armed forces launched the brutal Operation Searchlight on unarmed people on March 25 night, 1971.

Magura district information office, mass communication department and information and broadcasting ministry jointly organized the programme at the auditorium of Magura Govt High School.

District information officer Pavel Das presided over the discussion. Magura deputy commissioner Md. Ohidul Islam addressed the event as chief guest and freedom fighter Akther Hossain and head teacher of Magura Govt High School Md. Munirul Islam Manju, attended as the special guests.

During the discussion, one-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs who were victims of the genocide.

Speaking at the programme, deputy commissioner Md. Ohidul Islam branded the March 25 night as 'one of the darkest chapters' in the country's history.

He said Pakistani occupation forces launched the brutal killings on innocent and unarmed civilians without any provocation.

The administrator said the youths should learn true history of the 1971 Liberation War, achieved at the cost of a sea of blood.

The event featured a question and answer session, where students engaged with guests, enhancing their understanding of the historical context of the Liberation War.
