GAIBANDHA, APRIL 06, 2025 (BSS) - A daylong Campaign to identify obstetric fistula patients was held on Monday to bring them under the treatment facilities of government hospitals and build a fistula-free Gobindaganj Upazila of the district immediately.

The upazila health complex (UHC) conducted the campaign in a bid to declare fistula free upazila within very short time while the LAMB (Luthiana Aid Medicine in Bangladesh) Hospital funded by UNFPA Bangladesh facilitated the health department under FRRei Project to conduct the campaign effectively.

The campaign was conducted by 68 community clinics and their management teams from morning (9AM) to afternoon(3pm) on Monday.

The officials of UHC supervised the campaign. During the campaign hours, the community health care providers, accompanied by other staff, conducted searching activity in the respective catchment areas of the community clinics to find fistula patients.

Upazila health and family planning officer Masudar Rahman told the BSS that Obstetric fistula disease is curable if the patients are diagnosed early and brought under the treatment facilities of government hospitals
Earlier, a decision to conduct a campaign to find obstetric fistula patients was adopted in a meeting held at the auditorium of UHC very recently, he further added.

Accordingly, the campaign was held in the upazila through active participation of the health officials and all staff of 68 community clinics and their management teams, he added.

In reply to a query, UHFPO said some five suspect obstetric fistula patients had been found during the drive of the campaign.

After discussing with the close relatives, the patients would be sent to either Rangpur Medical College Hospital or Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for treatment, he concluded.
