Two robbers held, arms, ammunition seized from Sundarbans

KHULNA, May 06, 2025 (BSS) - Members of the Coast Guard arrested two robbers and seized arms and ammunition during an operation in the Sundarbans on Monday. 

The arrestees were Md Saddam Khan, 20, and Abbas Molla, 40, residents of Morelganj under Bagerhat district. Both individuals were accomplices of the notorious Karim Sharif gang (Bahini) active in the Sundarbans. 

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander H. M. M. Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a Coast Guard operational team conducted drives in the Adagachi area near the Shibsa River in the Sundarbans on Monday at 5:00pm and arrested Saddam and Abbas, said Harun-or-Rashid. 

During the operation, the Coast Guard recovered two single-barrel guns, one short gun, one toy gun, weapon-making equipment, 23 rounds of live cartridges, 204 rounds of blank cartridges, nine homemade weapons, 28 mobile phones, and various other tools used in robbery. 

The Bangladesh Coast Guard continues its 24-hour patrolling and special operations in coastal and riverine areas to maintain law and order, the official further stated.
