CHATTOGRAM, May 17, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee member and Chattogram City Ameer Shahjahan Chowdhury said that vested quarters are trying to create divisions among revolutionaries and weaken them.

"If this conspiracy is succeeded, the vested group will get an opportunity to reinstate the fascists. But they have forgotten that even though the students differ in their views and paths, they are united against fascism," he added.

"Everyone should remain united against fascism. The July 36 movement was an epoch-making revolution against fascism. The students and masses who stood for the country's democracy and human rights were the main driving force of this movement," he added.

He told journalists at July Shaheed Smriti Hall of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) on Saturday.

CPC Member Secretary Zahidul Karim Kochi presided over the function while city Jamaat Secretary Principal Mohammad Nurul Amin, CMUJ President Mohammad Shah Nawaz, City Jamaat Assistant Secretaries Mohammad Ullah and Morshedul Islam Chowdhury, its Organizing Secretary Principal Shamsuzzaman Helali and Dr. AKM Fazlul Haque, journalist leaders Mostafa Nayem, Mohammad Saifullah Chowdhury, Saiful Islam Shilpi and Hasan Ferdous, among others, spoke.

Shahjahan Chowdhury said the fallen Awami dictatorship had killed democracy and established a one-party state.

"It had closed all newspapers except four and stifled the voice of the press. After 53 years of independence, it had sold the sovereignty of independence to a neighboring country. They had destroyed the country's economy through corruption, looting and money laundering. Thus they were forced to flee in the face of the movement of the angry people," he added.
