RANGAMATI, May 18, 2025 (BSS) - Ferry services on the Rangamati-Chandraghona-Raikhali-Bandarban river route resumed this morning after a five-day suspension.

Sabuj Chakma, Executive Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department in Rangamati, said ferry operations restarted at 6am today.

He said services on the Chandraghona-Raikhali stretch were halted from 6am last Tuesday (May 13) due to dredging work on the Karnaphuli River.

Engineers and staff of the Roads and Highways Department worked tirelessly to complete the necessary dredging and renovation of the river route.

As the work has been completed, ferry movement resumed today.

Ronel Chakma, Sub-Divisional Engineer (Mechanical) of the Roads and Highways Department in Rangamati, said ferries and pontoons often get stuck in sandbars during low tide in the dry season, causing a navigability crisis and disrupting vehicular movement.

To address the issue, the Roads and Highways Department undertook dredging and renovation to ensure smooth ferry operations on the Karnaphuli River.
